BBC 4 You and Yours

Last week, GroupSense CEO Kurtis Minder was featured on the BBC 4 news program You and Yours. The presenter, Winifred Robinson, spoke about the effect of the Royal Mail ransomware attack with UK citizens and discussed the severity of the attack with Kurtis.

Around the 39-minute mark, Kurtis explains how the large attack surface of the Royal Mail made it easier for ransomware threat actors to find a way into the system. While the service has reinstated international parcel delivery, they are still experiencing significant delays for their customers. Local post offices are not able to complete parcel service for nearly six weeks.

Kurtis explains the complexity of bringing systems back online after a ransomware attack, which is even more difficult for large organizations like the Royal Mail. The Russian threat actors threatened to release customer data if the ransom was not paid, but that never occurred, leading Royal Mail to believe that the threat actors never obtained the data.
