October has been a busy month for GroupSense. Kurtis had the honor of presenting the keynote address at the summit and moderating a ransomware panel. During both speaking opportunities, Kurtis addressed the importance of preparing for ransomware and the fact that ransomware is largely preventable. With critical infrastructure data in threat actors’ hands, we all have a duty to perform cyber hygiene, including not clicking on things we aren’t expecting to receive.
During the ransomware breakout panel, Kurtis was joined by Suneel Cherukuri, CISO of D.C., and Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security for Virginia, Aliscia Andrews. Kurtis, Suneel, and Aliscia chatted about the ways in which organizations can use their security budgets in small increments to make a big impact, preventing breaches and ransomware for large, connected systems, and the importance of cyber hygiene.
Later in the day, Kurtis participated in a panel at the NVTC Capital Cyber Summit. During the panel, Kurtis was joined by Paul Curylo, VP and CISO at Inova Health System, and Rob Spitler, managing director of global professional services at Tracepoint. The conversation, moderated by Alicia Lynch, SVP and CSO of Cognizant, covered ransomware negotiations and double extortion cases.
At the Wisconsin Governor’s Cyber Summit, Kurtis presented a keynote address and participated on two panels. With a state and local government audience, Kurtis spoke about the prevalence of ransomware attacks at the state and local levels and how to prepare and prevent attacks.
