GroupSense’s CTO, Adam Bregenzer, participated on the Security Analytics & XDR Demo Forum with Richard Stiennon, as well as BlackCloak, Cyberint, and Digital Shadows. They discussed Digital Risk Protection around intel collection strategy, initial access brokers, and threat intel SOC integration.
On the panel, Adam was asked what’s GroupSense’s intel collection strategy.
“GroupSense provides finished intelligence – not only does it have recommendations, but it has the ability to help them with remediation, and we are even working in situations where we can automate the remediation. So, this enables GroupSense to find indicators of concern that lead to direct potential threats to the organization that we can integrate with that organization. We can use firewall, or using their identity services, to automatically take steps to remediate threats. However, our platform does more than just collect indicators, it also interacts in places with threat actors, which enables GroupSense to be able to assist with the remediation. This means we can interact with the threat actors directly and help to close the gaps.”
Richard dug into the topic of initial access brokers and how to navigate the complicated space.
“You need to do investigation and go through the process of identifying what other organizations are impacted and what the quantifiable risks are to their organizations. Awareness is critical. Being able to marry the automation with real people that can provide actual intelligence – that’s how you get to real solutions.”
Lastly, Richard asked Adam and the panel about threat intel SOC integration vs. manual notifications.
Click here to watch the panel >“We provide finished intelligence. We try to stay away from using the word ‘alert’ because often it involves customer education. So, when an organization first becomes a GroupSense client, they often want to us to send alerts to a specific location, however they will get a handful of notifications and every single one of them has a high confidence of an actual threat, so we prefer to integrate with a ticketing system where it is not going to be caught up in noise. That’s one side of it. The other side is when you are looking at credentials and being able to automatically disable in them inside of their active directory domain (or whatever they are using). For example, if it is a phishing related domain that GroupSense has been monitoring and seen it evolve from registration to now there’s some content on it - - - that content shares your assets, etc., - - - as that threat evolves from early prevention to remediation.
Automation can become complicated because organizations need to understand the threat. Digital Risk Protection as a term can be complicated with the word ‘risk’ in the middle. It can be difficult because risk isn’t the right way to define it. It is about protection. Not being able to quantify some of these risks because the organization might not understand the potential threat to them yet. This is where GroupSense interacts with the client (sometimes with a conversation) to help them understand is where some of the value comes from.”
