VICE Media: I Stop Multimillion Dollar Cyberattacks

Written by Editorial Team | Jan 31, 2022 9:43:45 PM

Kurtis Minder, GroupSense CEO, was featured in VICE Media's "I Stop Multimillion Dollar Cyberattacks." Kurtis spoke to VICE about his experience as a ransomware negotiator and what happens during and after a ransomware attack.

"The best thing that we can do as a country (and as organizations) is to defend ourselves. Many of the tools that threat actors are using to attack these businesses are common tools, are not sophisticated, and this is avoidable. If we want to dissuade the threat actors from doing these attacks, we can just make them harder to do."

About the Segment

Kurtis Minder is the middleman between hackers and companies with a lot to lose. He liaises with criminals, either for the release of data that’s being held hostage, or for assurances that the bad guys won't release sensitive information – including trade secrets, or personal information about high-ranking employees.

In this episode, we get a glimpse into the false urgency these criminals enforce, how they work on the dark web, and the real-life impact of their hacks as they target businesses, charities and even healthcare – putting lives at risk in the process.
